Freedom knows no bounds when you begin making collages. Express yourself with anything you choose how you choose it.

What do collages consist of Well it could be newspaper cuttings magazine cut outs feathers string scraps of fabric plastic silver paper or card to name but a few items. to sum it up all kinds of textures can be brought into use.

You could make a start by having a hunt around collecting items you think you could use. You will need a base to work from so whatever you are using for a background will maybe be needed to be painted an outline sketch drawn on it. Then you can start by positioning bits pieces to fill in your sketch other parts.

Bear in mind that your whole picture does not have to have collage pieces on it. If you are using pieces of paper you will probably need to cut them or tear them to obtain the right colours shapes. Actually crepe paper is pretty good for collages.

Should you only be using paper you will need a glue designed especially for paper just the same if you are using fabrics other materials you will need the right type of glue for these for them to stick fast.

The collage I have described here is pretty basic one but really if you want to take this a step further you can use pastels leather metal gravel buttons etc. Most things can actually be affixed to a flat surface. The rule is really that you can use any items to support what you have in your mind visually.

Children are forever making collages from magazine cuttings newspapers bottle tops silver paper bits of plastic bottles etc. Other people make quite amazing collages by only using pieces of newspaper print in black white from our daily papers.

Recent trends seem to lean towards collages made up from assorted photographs. Students children like doing these to include their friends family members or family pets.

First of all you need a base of one kind or another for mounting all your treasures. You may have to apply paint let it dry on this first. It may be you are using fabric or paper that does not need this. Next step is to sketch it all out.

Then you need an assortment of gathered items to choose from. You are unlikely to use them all no need to fret about using what may seem rather strange items nor do they all have to be flat on your surface.

Move them around your collage placing them until you are satisfied with what you have. Then glue each piece very carefully wait for it to dry. Once it has dried you could put a coating of a sealant on it just for protection purposes.

There are then various types of collage it could become a wall hanging a framed picture or a mount on a shelf. There are so many possibilities
